Fundation Valles FRN: working with PAR in Bolivia
This solution addresses the challenge of involving farmers and local organizations in research in the Andes for farmers, farmer organizations, NGOs, research institutes...
Problem Description
This approach is a direct response to the FRN principle that "Farmers that represent the social and biophysical diversity of their communities participate in the whole research process". This means that "Farmer groups set research priorities and influence the research agenda", that we "Engage farmer groups and organizations throughout the whole research process from diagnosis, design, implementation, analysis, and communication" and that we "Ensure farmers who lack financial, social, and resource capitals are included". In addition, FRNs aim to ensure that "Networks foster collaboration and opportunities for learning and knowledge sharing", which means "Foster genuine and authentic collaborative engagement" and "Facilitate learning and knowledge sharing across farmer groups with similar agendas, interests, and constraints".Building Blocks
Story
In order to build such networks, the stakeholders must be involved from the outset in defining a research topic, in designing the research method, in building schedules and budgets together, in choosing communication tools, in collecting and analyzing data, and more. The project in Bolivia with Fundacion Valles is a good example of how these processes are put in place and negotiated among partners.
Sustainable Development Goals
