Implementing Scalable and Replicable Changes

Summary

In Shelby County's resiliency program, three major areas (Big Creek, Wolf River, and South Cypress Creek) representing critical watersheds are the main focus of resiliency projects. The projects in these areas have been designed to both meet site specific challenges, and be scalable to other parts of the county. For instance, a common practice in all of these areas is redesigning the floor plain region (see building block). While in each region this may look different (in some regions, vacant homes are removed, in others new levees and river redirections are created), the core of these activities remains the same: "make room for the river" while advancing the equity of residents in harm's way.
