Mixed-Use Community Shelters
Summary
Vulnerable neighborhoods need places to shelter during storms, but also to help the community every day to become more self-sufficient. Programming includes a mix including: workforce training center, fresh food co-op, healthcare clinic, senior housing, and child care. Structures employ model technical solutions for elevation and floodproof construction on high ground, with a wind- and impact-resistant envelope. Self-sufficient features are critical: uninterruptible power and communications provides security for building residents and the neighborhood.
